SSG Sport & Coaching Academy

At SSG we are always looking for the brightest young up and coming talent in sports coaching. Our large team of sports coaches operate across the South East delivering sports, adventure activities and swimming to thousands of children and groups each year. We want you to be a part of that.

Our SSG Sport & Coaching Academy provides a unique blend of educational training and qualifications with access to high level mentoring, training and work placement opportunities with our professional coaching teams.

Trainees can access the academy at either intermediate or advanced level depending on prior experience and learning and graduates are then perfectly place to enter into immediate employment within our coaching teams, access higher learning at degree level or access into apprenticeships.

Our courses are packed full of fantastic content designed to provide you with the most relevant and learner focused provision available. Our academy pathway means that an intermediate student is able to complete and progress on to an advanced course level within the same academic year providing fantastic opportunities to progress in to apprenticeship or employment in a speedy and controlled environment.

Student Requirements

We love working with students that are motivated to achieve and keen to be practical. Our Sport & Coaching Academy courses are perfect for people that are seeking to find a route in to sports coaching and teaching or activity leadership of any type.

You should be aged between 16 – 19 years old. There are pre enrolment requirements based on prior learning and attainment and these can be specifically seen in the FAQ’s for each course in the links above.

No matter your prior educational status we will be able to offer you a route in to the sports academy courses either directly or via a foundation skills course to provide you with the required levels of prior attainment initially.

What Will You Achieve & Progress To?

By progressing through the Sport and Coaching Academy with SSG you will gain the following tangible outcomes from your course(s):

  • Become a paid associate member of the SSG Coaching Team (Dependent on your progression through training modules)
  • An accredited recognised sports qualification (see specific course FAQ/Information table)
  • Training for competency within over 50 sports and activities within the SSG portfolio of services
  • Formal work experience and contacts for further mentorship, apprenticeship or employment
  • Maths and/or English qualifications up to GCSE’s (where prior learning requires)
  • Progression into permanent employment with SSG
  • Progression opportunities in to Apprenticeship vacancies within Sport
  • Progression into higher edcucational courses at degree level
  • Sport specific governing body awards

We will also help you to identify career pathways objectives and milestones ensuring that all of our students have a clear and achievable plan to support them in to employment or higher education upon completing their course.

Enrolling Onto A Course

To secure your place on one of our programmes within the Sports Academy follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Contact us via website to complete an inital application

Step 2: Choose the right course – We will provide you with appropriate information and advice to help you select the most appropriate course for you based on your aspirations and prior learning. You can do this over the phone with a member of our team or alternatively you can access an in person meeting with us at our weekly advice and guidance sessions.

Step 3: Complete an Application Form – Once you have selected the correct course you will need to complete an application form and submit it to us for processing. Application forms can be provided to you via post or in person.

Step 4: Conditional Offer – Once your application form has been processed you will receive a conditional offer pack (as long as your application is accepted and we have capacity on the programme). This letter is our commitment to you that we have allocated you a place on the course ahead of enrolment. *Note at this point you become liable for course costs should you fail to attend.

Step 5: Course Enrolment – You will be provided with an enrolment session date to come in and meet your tutor, collect your timetable and complete enrolment pack paperwork. This is usually a week in advance of your course starting.
