Traineeships

SSG’s Traineeship programme is designed to support 16 – 24 year olds to gain relevant work placed qualifications as well as engage directly with employers seeking apprentices and employees for a period of high quality work placement to gain experience.

The jobs market is becoming more and more crowded and as such it is becoming more and more difficult for young people to break into, particularly within their desired field, without being able to demonstrate on their CV that they have experience within that particular sector to back them.

 

Through accessing a Traineeship position with SSG trainees can address these issues and fast track themselves towards the jobs market.

Once an individual signs up for a traineeship programme with SSG they commence their learner journey with us with an interview with one of our Learner Engagement Coordinators.

The individual will be given the opportunity to outline their preferred career route or if they don’t have one identify key skills and strengths that they deem themselves to have.

This allows us to begin working with our business partners to identify the perfect work placement for them.

Assessment

Learners are also given an initial assessment to support their enrolment, this provides SSG with a clear understanding of what level of support we need to provide to ensure that the learner achieves a minimum set Level 2 in English and maths to enhance their employability after the course.

Pre Work Development

Learners are next placed on a 6 week pre work placement programme of development, this is focused on supporting the learner achieve their maths and English qualifications as well as a employability qualification to support them in maintaining employment and representing themselves to the best of their ability on work placement.

During this period our Business Engagement coordinator works with the learner to identify a preferred work placement, the placement is confirmed with the employer and the learner with a full placement agreement produced for both the employer and the learner.

Work Placement

Week 7 – 12 of the traineeship sees the learner commence work placement, this is supported by our business engagement coordinator via weekly visits and contacts with both the employer and the learner. This is the learners opportunity to demonstrate to the employer that they are worthy of an apprenticeship or full employment. At the end of the placement the business agrees to interview the trainee and as a minimum provide feedback.

Each of our partner businesses are committed to supporting young peoples development and are open to working with SSG to provide a nurturing and supportive work placement whilst maintaining the real life importance of work placed etiquette and work ethic. Both the employer and SSG’s desire is to see a positive work placement and progression in to apprenticeship or employment.

Job Placement

At the end of the programme learners are engaged into 2 weeks of progression focus if there is not a match with their placement employer, this is supported by our business engagement team and we aim to ensure that all of our trainees leave the programme with a positive progression and have moved closer to or into the jobs market.

SSG were delighted to be included in the national pilot for the Traineeship model which is now being rolled out across the country and as such we are an industry leading provider of traineeships. We have delivered over 300 traineeship placements in the last 18 months and have built up a large portfolio of employers across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
